DESCRIPTION
Transparent powder coating often referred to as "candies" are translucent finishes that offer unparalleled color depth. Typically, Transparent powder coating is applied over a bright silver substrate (polished, chrome plating etc.) for reflectivity which is necessary for color depth. If the part being coated is not suitably reflective, then a chrome-like or metallic silver base coat can be applied prior to the transparent top coat. Transparent powders are not quite as easy to spray as their Solid Tone counterparts. Varying coating thickness will return varying color depths. Mastering the Transparent powder coating spray technique requires closer attention to detail, but no other powder finish offers the level of depth that transparent do.
Occasionally powder coaters will try to hot flock their part where they heat the part prior to shooting the powder, this is especially true when applying two coats of powder coating like is often done with translucent powder coating.
